Garden State Yacht Club
Alan K. Karpas

Hi Everyone,

I'm sure that most of you know that Larry Crystal, for family health reasons, resigned as Commodore of the Garden State Yacht Club, effective May 6, 2006. I hope that, by now, most of you have received the email letter from Vice Commodore Jack Dashosh in reference to this resignation. The Board of Governors following Article VI section 4 of the By-Laws approved Vice Commodore Jack Dashosh's nomination of Alan Karpas to fill the vacant term.

That being said, lets get down to serious business.

As you all know the lake is extremely low and therefore has delayed the installation of the docks. My first action as Commodore is to appoint Don Beck the weather chairman until the dock's are in. Don has not been allowed on the weather committee since 1992 when he was the Commodore and his logo was Noah's ark. However, dire situations dictate extreme action. I can assure you that since he is the chairman of the weather committee, the monsoons will be starting. His name on the committee chart is on Velcro. I will keep you informed as to when the water is high enough and we will be able to install the docks.

Last night's Cinco de Mayo party was a blast! Everyone had a great time and a lot of margaritas and beer was consumed. Many thanks to the Bergs and the Mandelbaums for putting the event together. The decorations and costumes were great. We celebrated Howard's birthday as well and wish him many, many more for us to share.

Coming events: Next Sunday, May 14th, is the Mothers Day Brunch at the club at noon time. The Margolies' are chairing the event so please make your reservations soon. Call Bonnie at 973-736-0326.

Memorial Day Fliers are in the mail. Friday night's cabaret features THE WYIOS. Phyllis is chairing this so you know it will be a knock out. Call her at 973-994-0102. Saturday night is the ball. Invitations have been mailed, so please RSVP promptly. Sunday is the Membership meeting at 7:30PM with a buffet supper at 6PM. Please call Kathy & Rick Rosenthal at 973-927-1965 for reservations. An agenda for the meeting will be distributed shortly. Monday, Memorial day we will have a barbecue and entertainment.

A reminder. Tabs begin on Memorial Day weekend, so except for the ball on Saturday night all other events are on tabs. Please remember to send in your tab and dues money by the 23rd.

Also, Jan Schlosser has agreed once again to do tabs and both Margie & I thank her for undertaking this tough job.

Saturday night June 3rd is a Dine at the Club night with a band. Flyers will be out shortly with details. Fern Kamine will be chairing the event, 973-514-1148. If Al answers hang up.

I will be sending these bulletins to all of you each week to keep you informed as to what is happening at the GSYC. This week you might get an extra one as there is a lot to tell you.

Margie and I are thrilled with all of the phone calls of encouragement and support. As a result, we will be calling upon everyone to help make this year a success.

Some good and welfare news. Eli Gaynor is recovering very well from a fight with a 93 year old lady and he was the loser. Her car and his mo-ped - he had no shot. Sandy Levine is quite ill in the hospital and we pray for his full recovery. Stan & Claire Harris will be back in New Jersey shortly after a very tough winter.

Will talk to all of you later.
