our owl at the dock

Another Day in the Life of the Commodore
Monday July 10, 2006

As everyone knows from my last missive, we have two owls at the dock.
One sits on the concrete and seems to have  done a fair job, not a great one but fair. This means that you don't have to tiptoe through the crap - just step gingerly through it.

The other owl is at the end of the docks . When, this past Monday, Hank and I went to check the docks, what is the first thing we see? You got it! It's pictured above. Our owl has a seagull standing on its head and seagull crap all over the dock. So now we have geese and a seagull problem.
(I think that it was the seagulls who stole the coyote!!)

Our first mistake.
What the hell does a barn owl know about docks?

We are now back to the original plan. A sound system that will keep the seagulls away.
So this is what it has come down to:
another Commodore decision.
Do we get the sound system to scare the seagulls but not have any effect on the geese or do we keep the owls which attract the seagulls and have almost no effect on the geese?

What to do???
It's unfortunate that our by-laws are not very helpful to the Commodore. They guide you through a lot of crap but none of it is geese & seagulls.

Tuesday July 11
There is more crap than on Monday.
The seagulls hate Hank and are out to get him and any boat in the way.
Hank hates the seagulls, in fact, that's what he wanted on the menu for Chinese night July 14th
(a little commercial)
along with Peking (Hopatcong) geese.
When I told Hank that he could be arrested he calmed down.

At this same time I received the proposal from our 2nd opinion environmental company on the cottages..
I will call a board meeting shortly to discuss these issues. I have a plan. My recommendation will be to capture the seagulls and geese at the docks and let them loose in the cottages. Then we can get FEMA to declare a disaster area and to give us money to get rid of both problems in one shot.

I just needed to share with you....
